Case Study: Building Community Systems
The SEO Community
The SEO Community is a Slack group for search and AI professionals. It evolved from a pandemic-era Clubhouse “SEO open chat” led by Noah Learner and a strong group of global SEO practitioners.
I had a coffee chat with Noah in winter of 2024/5 when I joined the SEO Community. A few weeks later, he took me up on my offer to help grow the website.
In one year, we’ve got:
215+ pages indexed across theseocommunity.com
20 newsletters delivered to thousands of SEOs
20+ videos featuring industry leaders and members
40+ articles from community contributors
The foundations to make it operate like SOPs, workflows, briefs, templates, and brand knowledge.
And would you believe, that’s fractional
The community we’re building is dedicated to SEO professionals offering resources, mentorship, industry insights, and a space to connect with some of the smartest minds in search.
As the community grew, it needed organization, systems, and processes. I offered my help to create foundational elements for operations, and marketing. They needed stronger editorial systems, content standards, and operations that can amplify community members and partners.
Throughout the year, we’ve created or improved:
Editorial guidelines
Publishing workflows and process SOPs for marketing activities
Content management including website, newsletter, contributors, some social
Partner and event management
The best part of working with the community is making new friends with folks I’ve met. Our goal is to help as many of our members get the most out of their career as possible, so working with contributors to give them another way to show their expertise to others is *chefs kiss* part of the magic.
